Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of being invited to attend the first candle making masterclass as part of Canberra Centre’s Eden experience. The masterclass was taught by Elise Pioch, an Australia-based fashion buyer from Southern France who jumped into entrepreneurship and have her own luxurious candle brand, Maison Balzac.

Throughout Spring in 2016, Canberra Centre is introducing the concept of Eden, an innovative health and wellness experience which will be the ultimate destination to enjoy feeling a sense of wellness within yourself. Most of use live in a fast-paced world where everything needs to be done quickly and instantly. Emails could be replied as soon as it arrives on our smartphones, reporting our current situations and experiences instantly on social media (thanks to snapchat and insta story!), and everything else that fills up our daily life, making it harder for us to switch off and discover our inner tranquility.
Eden intends to help customers of Canberra Centre reconnect with themselves through meditation, harmony and mindfulness with a series of masterclasses hosted by high profile line-up of Australia’s leading Health & Wellness experts.
The candle making masterclass that I attended, for example, was hosted by Elise Pioch, the founder of luxurious Maison Balzac candles. Elise has created a unique Eden scent for the 100% soy wax candle that she hand poured into individual candle glasses for us to take home. The scent she has created is hoped to evoke beautiful memories of our lives, such as a warm hug from our loved ones, or our grandmother’s beloved perfume. The scent actually reminds me of a very smooth and silky fabric on a beautiful dress!
We also get to hear Elise’s experience in entrepreneurship. She was a fashion buyer for some of Australia’s biggest fashion brands, and she decided to make her own luxurious candle line, Maison Balzac. The candles are available in independent shops all over Australia, and the rest of the world, including one of Paris’ favourite fashion retailer, Colette boutique.
Other than the candle making masterclass, there are other masterclasses such as floral paper art masterclass with Benja Harney (I really wanted to go to this one, but I’m leaving to Indonesia on the same day!), meditation masterclass with Gary Gorrow and many more. For more details about Eden and the masterclasses, please visit the Canberra Centre website. The Eden will run from Thursday 8 September to Sunday 30 October at Canberra Centre level 1 next to Country Road.
