As a designer, I know how difficult it is to keep my workspace neat and tidy all the time. I do have a nice workspace. However, when work lines up, I find my things are all over the place, and I don’t even have the time to clean it up! When I was approached to do a workspace makeover sponsored by Officeworks, I jumped at the opportunity right away. What better way to start the new Financial Year than having a workspace refresh? The great news is, you can enter to win $100 gift voucher giveaway from Officeworks (GIVEAWAY CLOSED, THANK YOU)! Details are at the end of this post.

Let’s take a look at some before pictures…

Officeworks Master Your Workspace & Giveaway (Before) | DESIGN IS YAY!

This is how my workspace looks on a typical busy day. Sketchbook and notebooks everywhere, stacks of invoices and bills, drawing tools, and I don’t even own proper storage for my things. I normally re-use paper boxes from my paper supplier. Sometimes it’s hard for me to do things on my computer with all of those things around me.
Beside my main computer desk, there’s a smaller desk where I put my wireless printer and store my art and craft supplies. Underneath that desk was where I stored my stacks of printing paper, packaging supplies and some books and magazines. With all those things on the desk, I had no more space to comfortably do my work. They also look very messy and uninspiring. So I figured, what I need are some proper storage units to tidy them up.

My main computer desk is looking much better now for sure, where did all the mess disappear to?

I’m so pleased that now I have my main computer desk, AND a work station on the side to do my printing, cutting and packaging orders for shipment. How neat are those Monday to Friday A4 Folders? I also picked up some clear hooks to hang those folders using paper clips. The idea is to put the documents that need to be looked at on each day of the week in them. I also got my packaging supplies some proper storage boxes: A Large Stackable Drawer that’s big enough for my bigger-than-A4 tough mailing bags and brown wrapper roll, and an A4 box for the smaller things, such as twines, scissors and stickers. I also found this cute expanding file with a lot of compartments to store mails, bills, invoices, product warranties… you know how difficult they are to find when you really need them. It comes in 4 beautiful colour to match your workspace interior.

As a stationery fan, I couldn’t miss the chance to pick up some cool stationery from Officeworks’ X collections. I bought those cool mechanical pencils that kinda look like led pencils, B5 Spiral Notebook with PVC Zip Lock Cover where I can stash my stationery and drawing tools for when I’m doing work outside (and the dotted sheets is so convenient for sketching!), a pack of 36 Mini Coloured Pencils and it’s no surprise that I just had to have these cat paper clips. How adorable!

I also bought an A5 binder for my blog planner and a magnetic white board to stick my general to do list and some images that inspire me :)

One of Officeworks’ services that I use quite frequently is their Print & Copy service. They can print your documents/artwork instantly (unless they are really really busy) without a minimum order. I also find that their printing quality is great and they have a wide range of paper to choose from. That custom portrait illustration of me and my husband was printed by Officeworks Print & Copy, and I also didn’t forget to pick up a white frame for it. Also, if you’re not in a rush to get your printing done, you can order your prints online and have them delivered to your house.

Now, if you’re still wondering where all those messy things disappeared to, here’s my favourite purchase from Officeworks – Spencer 10 Drawer Cabinet with wheels in Aqua. The drawers might look small to you, but they are actually very spacious and able to contain a lot of things. I always love having things around my workspace with wheels, as I tend to move things around when I work. The Spencer 10 Drawer Cabinet also comes in other colours. Now, who says that a workspace needs to be colourless and boring? Officeworks has a range of colourful furnitures and stationery to match the theme of your workspace.

In this drawer cabinet, I finally get to neatly store my stacks of printing paper, my greeting cards collection, some art supplies, my writing tools, and I organised my stationery using a clear drawer tidy, which fits perfectly inside the drawer cabinet.

  • Storage, storage and more storage! I have so many piles of paper lying around it’s ridiculous. I would love to have a place to put everything when I’m not using it. Currently that ‘place’ is a big pile on my desk.. and the floor. Aaahh! Great post by the way. I have a whole Pinterest board of lovely looking, neat work spaces. :)

    • Amanda Stevens

By making it my own little slice of nice :) Colour coding and sleek new designs will make organisation seem effortless. Plus making the space more inviting = I’ll be more productive as i will want to be in the space 24 – 7.
Making it an all together positive, happy and delightful little corner of my world. xx

  • Kirsten

I will master my workspace (instead of it mastering me) by finally having a place to put stuff away rather than all over my desk. And in proper designer fashion colour coordinate EVERYTHING!

  • Alyce

Being both a teacher & the star sign Virgo means that I enjoy being organized! On the flip side, being creative & always busy means that my two worlds of organization and chaos are often colliding. I would use the amazing Officeworks prize to master these two sides of my workplace to create an evenly balanced creative yet organized area to complete projects from marking essays to making crafty things. It would be fantastic to master a functional yet inspirational area to appease both sides of my life, not to mention my overall love & obsession for stationery!

  • Ruth

I’m always looking for flat surfaces to spread out on when crafting so an extra table would be awesome! And who could resist the colours of that Spencer 10 drawer cabinet. Too yummy!

  • Debbie

    Go vertical for extra storage!

  • Better paperwork storage and filing, cabling management and nicer storage.

  • Laura

I’m a full time uni student who has to have my study desk in my bedroom… which leaves very little room for anything else! Unfortunately, the slightest bit of stray books, papers, stationery, etc, leaves my room looking like a tornado struck. I would love to be able to put some shelves up like you did and create some organisation space… yup organisation is what I will buy from Officeworks! :)

  • I -need- to master my work space. Between Uni and blogging, freelance writing and general clutter it is a mess (I’m currently looking at a desk full of beauty products that need reviewing, airline tickets that need point collecting and magazines that I need to read/pull the pages I need and paperwork that needs filing.

How would I master my work space? I’d start by buying a cute set of drawers that fit comfortably under my desk to store bits and bob, file my paperwork and where I can store things that aren’t urgent.

I’d buy a new chair as well. I spend so many hours stuck to this chair (from Officeworks!) and it is looking so tired and starting to get uncomfortable.

Thirdly, I’d love some cute stationary holders. I LOVE stationary and have sooo much (…damn you Officeworks! hahah) so now I need some containers to hold it in, maybe similar to what you have in the blue spencer 10 drawer cabinet.

  • I need high storage to stop my toddlers from opening drawers and emptying their contents over my office floor. I also need dividers to keep papers separated so they don’t get lost together. Some photo frames would also be great so that they can hung up on my wall with inspirational quotes and pictures of family because they are the reason I work – so I can provide them with a quality life.

  • Liz

I have been eyeing the Spencer drawers for ages. Love the look!

With full-time Uni study along with running a small business, things can get chaotic on my work desk. I’m always looking for clever and stylish ways to organise my life. I love finding drawers, shelves, clips, pouches and boxes that are both practical and pretty to add my own twist to it.

  • Cathy

Love the 10 drawer storage! That’d be great for my craft supplies!

  • I am the BIGGEST stationery nerd. Officeworks was my favourite thing about going back to school as a kid. Having just set up a new home office I’m noticing all the little things I need (adult stapler, scissors, hole punch – I’m still working the the kid sized collection from my uni days!) And a bookshelf would be great – the floor isn’t really ‘storage’ is it?
I loved all your choices too! Those A$ weekly folders would be amazing.
    Ashleigh

  • Ahh I think I’d prettying just copy you! Haha. Love the files on the wall, that’s brilliant. And I’ve been eyeing off those little cabinets forever, such a cute way to store all the bits and bobs that seem to accumulate on my desk!

  • Definitely storage. Loved the idea of having folders to organise by what to look at on each day of the week. Otherwise I just start one pile of things to look at that becomes a bottomless pit.

  • Skye TIernan

Ahh your workspace looks heavenly very organised and inspiring! Mine on the other hand is a hoarders paradise!
I need to desperately streamline my space by investing in a decent desk instead of two large market tables and get some shelves plus lots of storage! Your gorgeous Spencer drawer cabinet from Officeworks would be ideal as I too have so many craft supplies, packing materials and masses of paperwork that are breeding like rabbits! I’m now at the point where I’m struggling to efficiently complete my orders and remain creatively inspired which is certainly getting me down since my work room used to always be my “Happy Place”. I would be most grateful to have Officeworks help me become the Master once more! Thank you

  • Sonja Stephens

ORGANISE! My house has no storage including wardrobes, things are hiding under the bed and every little nook and cranny! It is driving me to distraction!

  • Samantha Connell

I think the secret to a great home office is a comfortable chair, bluetac, and a clear desk (with enough space to swing a cat? small child?) I definitely need some help mastering my desk space. I love your example of floating shelves above the desk and the Spencer draws are far too cute for me to live without! I never knew Officeworks offered free delivery on orders over $55. Very tempting!

  • Alana Phipps

Returning to study this year has been a challenge and I think what I’m missing is a proper work space for me to get things done and store all my bits and pieces. A $100 voucher towards making this happen would be a massive help!

  • By making my workspace ultra personalised with photos and colour and nifty practical tools. A space that invites me to write and achieve my dreams, organised enough to help me focus, and dreamy enough to inspire a little hocus pocus.

  • Felicity P

My desk at work needs to be my home away from home, so I have to fill it with pictures that I like and photos that make me feel like I’m not trapped in the office. Bright colours are really important and I can’t stand mess so there needs to be lots of storage – I’m definitely in need of some new folders!

  • “A place for everything and everything in its place” – I work primarily from my home office and I would love to master my workspace by making it a more organised and creative space. And I absolutely love the Spencer 10 Drawer Filing Cabinet! xx Rani

  • Mel

Storage and inspiration are big on the lists for me. My desk gets cluttered with bills, magazines, receipts and I don’t currently have an easy way of getting to the folders where I keep those things. I also feel that my space is a bit inspiration-less at the moment, so I’d love to add a big pin board and maybe a white board above the desk so I can pin some inspirational pictures, quotes etc!

  • On my god. Love those cat paper clips. So cute. I’m moving house and will finally have room for a workspace. I would master mine by getting a new awesome funky desk to sit at and lots of bright colorful bits and bobs to accessorise my new office. Plus some great storage shelves to put all my books.

  • Emily

I would master my office/work space using “Officeworks” by using the Spencer 10 drawer cabinet for all my bits and bobs! I love it’s gorgeous blue colour!

  • I would master my workspace by mastering some organisation techniques. We all know a workspace without organisation is not a workspace at all. No organisation means no functionality and my current workspace seems to lean in that direction. With the help of this voucher from Officeworks, I’m sure my workspace could put the fun back into functional. :)

  • Mew

I would master my workspace with cabinets, bookshelves and corkboards. I don’t have any room on my desk as it’s quite small and it’s filled with so much stuff (eg. stationery, photo frames and piles of books) so I would use the Spencer 10 Drawer Cabinet to store all of my stationery and other little bits and pieces, the bookshelves to store my books and the corkboards to pin my photos.

  • Perfect timing for the perfect question! I’m looking at re-arranging my workspace to get a better flow of energy and production through my studio for all my crafting endeavors :-)

  • My workspace moves with me – sometimes in one room, sometimes in another – so I could use some boxes or baskets to move things easily around the house – and quickly clear the kitchen table when dinner is ready!

  • Being a mumma of two at home making clothing and intentional learning resources, it’s hard to find things in all the chaos of home life. Blogging happens at the kitchen table and l long for my own filing system and storage solutions that are just for me and not sharing with the kids craft supplies. And a timetable for getting things done might inspire me to crave out time for my own creative time that is fun to look at and tidy.
